When should you visit Ohio?

Most residents and visitors say that Fall is the best time to visit due to the variety of trees and range of colors during peak foliage; however, every season provides unique outdoor experiences. Winter provides snow covered pine trees, frozen waterfalls, and beautiful photo opportunities. Spring brings rain showers which make the waterfalls flow and the flowers grow! Summer brings the lush green hills and the stunning sunsets.

Where to hike throughout the park?

The Cuyahoga Valley boasts over 120 miles of enthralling hiking trails that will take you on an adventure like no other. This hidden gem is more than just the three hiking destinations I mention throughout this post; it also offers a Ski Resort, a Boy Scout camp, and so many more activities in the surrounding area. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

#3 Blue Hen Falls

Difficulty: Moderately challenging

Length: 3.1 mile out-and-back

Elevation Gain: 580

Time: 2 hours

Parking: 6947 Riverview Rd. Peninsula, OH 44264

Named after an anecdotal sighting of a blue chicken, this breathtaking waterfall is a testament to the natural beauty of the wilderness. Get ready for a 3-mile round-trip hike that leads directly to the falls, where you can immerse yourself in its true magnificent majesty. Blue Hen also makes a great swimming hole in the summer months. It is shallow water so I do not recommend jumping in or diving, however, it is nice to sit in and cool off after a mostly uphill hike.

#2 Brandywine Gorge Trail & Waterfall

Difficulty: Easy

Length: 1.5 miles

Elevation Gain: 190 feet

Time: 1 hour

Parking: 8176 Brandywine Rd. Northfield, OH 44067

Marvel at the tallest waterfall in Ohio, towering at a height of 65 feet This trail is a leisurely 1.5 mile hike to clear your mind on a well-defined and easily accessible trail. The trail itself requires little to no incline; however, if you are going to view the waterfall, there is a lower lookout point which entails a couple sets of stairs. If you’re fortunate enough to visit in the winter months, you may even witness the waterfall freeze.

#1 Ledges Trail & Ledges Overlook

Difficulty: Moderate

Length: 2.2 mile loop

Elevation Gain: 100 feet

Time: 1.5 hours

Parking: 405 Truxell Rd. Peninsula, OH 44264

Ledges trail spans about 2.2 miles and can easily be interrupted by stunning views of the valley or golden hour sunsets. As you continue on your hike, brace yourself for even more jaw-dropping discoveries as you explore caves, boulders, and narrow walkways that make this trail truly unique. An interesting feature of Ledges Trail is Icebox Cave. This cave is currently closed to the public due to an infection with bats, but you are still able to peek inside to allow your imagination to wonder at what could be inside.
