Frequently Asked Questions:

Trevor’s outdoor and travel experience stems from his formative years in the Boy Scouts. He joined cub scouts at age 7 and progressed all the way to the rank of Eagle Scout. Those 11 years of backpacking trips, monthly campouts, and learning survival skills shaped him into who he is today.

His media experience has been completely self-taught. He always had a passion for photography and decided to teach himself the necessary skills to produce professional photos.

Riley was always interested in travel, but never took it seriously until starting ‘Hiking With Hykes’ with Trevor. Now she loves hiking, adventure travel, and exploring new places.

Our favorite National Park is always a tough, but fair question. Obviously every National Park has its beauty and unique landscapes, but a favorite does not necessarily mean it has to be the best.

Therefore, Trevor’s favorite park is the New River Gorge. He has a lot of memories there from some of the best times of his life that he will cherish forever. On top of that, it has so many great hikes, views, and activities for anyone to enjoy!

Riley’s favorite national park, so far, is Shenandoah in Virginia. Skyline drive is a road that goes throughout the entirety of the park and it is full of endless overlooks and mountain views. She also loves how many white tailed deer can be found along Skyline drive and along the hiking trails in the park.

We’re glad you asked! Sometimes the best way to get into hiking is to lace up a good pair of tennis shoes, find a local park, and just walk on the trail. Hiking can seem intimidating with people who have all the gear you could ever imagine; however, some of the best hikes we have ever been on were with a pair of shoes and a water bottle. We always believed we were meant to help others. Content creation is our way of showing you what is out there to explore and to help you make the most of your experiences. Content is also our way of expressing our humor, art, and lifestyle.

We ultimately began this content creation journey after we both started working full-time after college and had the available funds to spend on travel. As broke college students, we always dreamed of traveling to these beautiful places, but never had the money to do so. We still travel on a budget, but we are fortunate enough to have these opportunities now.

Nice to meet you!

Hi there! We are Trevor and Riley, the creators behind Hiking With Hykes. We are professional photographers and adventure travel content creators that showcase things to do in Ohio and beyond! We are a couple who met in college, dated long distance for two years, and now live together in Northeast Ohio. Outside of hiking and travel, we love working out, visiting with friends and family, playing euchre, and watching sports. We are actually a divided household when it comes to football because Trevor is a die hard Cleveland Browns fan and Riley is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, so you can only image how NFL Sundays go!

Where We Are From

Trevor grew up in Austintown, Ohio which is a suburb of Youngstown for those who are not familiar. Youngstown is not necessarily known for any of it’s hiking or outdoor activities; however, it is an Appalachian county and holds some beautiful hidden gems such as Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek Metro Park.

Riley grew up in Beaver, Pennsylvania which is located near the Pittsburgh Airport! It is about a 40 minute drive from the city of Pittsburgh and has some nice local hikes as well as small town vibes. Even though she always wanted to move away from the town, she always enjoys visiting her family and friends and eating at the local restaurants she grew up loving.
